ZWERVER

Kaj Zwerver (1995, Haarlem, he/him) is an interior architect, writer, and activist. Studio Zwerver houses his design, writing, and activist practice. Living and working in Ghent. This is the same city where he completed his studies at KASK, School of Arts and the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture.

His Dutch-Indonesian roots and a youth shaped by frequent relocations, moving from the Netherlands to Switzerland and eventually to the Belgian border region are fundamental to his worldview. Through these moves, he developed a sharp awareness of people and their surroundings.

From his own practice, Studio Zwerver, he writes about the intersections of architecture and society, engages in activist interventions, and conducts research into a critical approach to architecture.

In 2025, this resulted in a nomination for the Geert Bekaert Prize for architecture criticism with an essay on homelessness and design activism. Kaj was one of the five finalists at the Archined Critics Night, which took place during the Rotterdam Architecture Month.

Through his role as infrastructure manager at the NTGent City Theatre alongside other commitments within the Ghent cultural sector, such as serving as a youth panel member at the arts centre VIERNULVIER, a guide for the Design Museum Ghent, and a board member at the Ghent Ecological Centre he positions himself at the heart of the debate, actively contributing to making the city and society more liveable.
